Potential of Solar Water Heating System in Bangladesh
REEEP has explored new avenues to promote the use of solar energy beyond traditional solutions. Leather processing is one of the biggest industries of Bangladesh. A large volume of hot water is required in this sector to process raw leather, which consumes a lot of energy. A pilot is ongoing to test the viability of tube-type solar powered water heaters in a leather factory in Hemayetpur, Dhaka. GIZ is also conducting a study to develop a business model, assessing whether the system is business viable or not. Moreover an energy audit has been conducted in the industry to find out the potential energy saving measures, recommendation for possible initiatives.
The programme also conducted a feasibility study of using Solar Water Heaters in Community Clinics and Eco Resorts.
